The Perfect Outdoor Kitchen Shed

April 5, 2021

With a little ingenuity and elbow grease, you can have the perfect outdoor kitchen shed. Spring is on the horizon, and summer will be here before you know it – so now’s the perfect time to have that outdoor kitchen you’ve always wanted. Just about everyone enjoys eating outside on a warm summer day or evening, but it takes some of the fun out of it having to lug all of the food from the indoor kitchen to the yard. This year can be different!

To have an outdoor kitchen shed you’re going to need a handful of things to make your dream a reality.

First, you’re going to need a shed. If you don’t have one, Countryside Barns’ team of experts will help you with a custom shed design or take you through our inventory of pre-built sheds.

If you have a shed, you’ll need to roll your sleeves up and find another place for the items you have in it. You can get a storage unit or another shed for items you don’t use very often but don’t want to get rid of. If you do find things you just don’t need anymore – discard or donate them.

Second, you’ll need a building plan. Make it detailed – take your time and envision what your outdoor kitchen shed is going to look like. Think through all of the details. You’ll need to consider flooring, lighting, cabinets, storage, shelving…pretty much everything you’d need for your indoor kitchen.

Next, you have to consider insulation. If you want your outdoor kitchen shed to be protected from the cold winds of winter, you’ll need to get the right insulation. For this, you’ll need to do a little research and see what R-value insulation would be best. Insulation is a must-have if you want to avoid feeling cold, getting high heating bills, and water pipes breaking.

Then comes the windows. Good and solid double-pane windows might be exactly what you need, so upgrade your existing windows if you have to. First, review where your electrical wires run, then you’re ready to do the rest of the work when installing windows. If you take care of this, you won’t need to reroute or cut lines. If you can’t afford to buy new windows, check out construction outlets that have returns. You can also check out Craigslist to find something for a price that suits you.

Now for the fun part – kitchen appliances. After you’re done with everything else that was mentioned, it’s time to pick the appropriate appliances for your new kitchen. You can finally start spending money on those cabinets that piqued your interest or a stove like the ones you saw in magazines.

When you turn your shed into an outdoor kitchen, you’ll finally be able to enjoy summer to the fullest! Remember, you can always find your inspiration in magazines and on the internet. Follow these several tips and everything is going to be easier.
